2010 Toyota Corolla improves with new standard safety feautures
Forty years ago, the Toyota Corolla showed its face in the United States for the first time, and since, it’s had great success – selling over 30 million globally. However, in recent years, it began to blend in with the other sedans on the road. So this year, Toyota gave its lineup’s staple model a boost, making it even safer and more fuel efficient than its competitors.
Toyota has equipped its new 2010 Corolla models with VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) with TRAC (Traction Control). Also, each Corolla Waukegan will come standard with Toyota’s Star Safety System, including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and Brake Assist.
Not only does the 2010 Corolla rank at the top of the automotive charts in safety, it ranks very high in fuel efficiency averaging 35 mpg highway. Assisting in improving fuel economy is the Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) which manages intake and exhaust camshafts valve timing. In addition, the body styling was altered to become more aerodynamic, helping to increase overall fuel economy.
With a starting price tag of $15,350, the Corolla comes in five grades- Corolla, S, LE, XLE, and XRS. The standard Corolla model comes built with a 1.8L engine (2.4L optional) and owns 132 hp and 128 lb/ft of torque. Built with 5-speed manual transmission, this 2010 5-seater has larger trunk capacity, generously sized side-view mirrors to improve visibility and an altered drivers seat to accommodate taller drivers. A digital odometer and shift indicator, pollen filter in the air conditioning, and a nearly flat backseat floor- to improve comfort for middle seat passengers- will all be found in this newly revamped Corolla.
Another repeated concern drives have voiced is unpleasant wind noise. To address this issue, Toyota has adjusted the windshield molding, wiper blade covers and shape of the cowl air intake louvers on the 2010 Corolla, which are all designed to minimize wind vibration. The windshield itself is also made from acoustic glass in attempt to alleviate noise.
