November 3, 2009 Toyota News No Comments

Toyota prevails once again. And again in the hybrid market. In February of this year, Toyota hit its mark of selling 1 million hybrid vehicles, and in early August, a short 6 months later, has reached the 2 million mark in global hybrid sales.

priushybridAlthough Toyota sells 13 hybrid models in about 50 countries, Toyota gives much thanks to the North American car buyers who provided Toyota with more than fifty percent of their first 2 million. North America, being the largest hybrid market, brought in 1.15 million hybrid sales since its first vehicle’s launch in 2000. Although these numbers are impressive comparatively, it took a bit of time for the hybrid trend to take off.

The Toyota Prius Hybrid actually debuted in Japan in 1997 and three years later it was brought to the U.S. market and added to the lineup of affordable Toyota vehicles at  Waukegan dealer, Classic Toyota. As the math shows, it took more than a decade for Toyota to get to that million marker, which in standard annual global car sales is almost insignificant. On the plus side, the Prius has been named the world’s best-selling hybrid model ever. Automotive News states there 1.43 million Prius Hybrid drivers who have contributed to Toyota’s grand total of 2 million sales.

Coming in behind the successful Prius is Toyota’s Camry Hybrid. It’s able to strike 107,600 tallies in purchased vehicles thus far. The Camry Hybrid sales are definitely on the rise and seem to be taking off on the same curve as the Prius, averaging about 35,000 purchases a year since its launch in 2006. It should also be taken into account the Camry Waukegan Hybrid is priced about $4,000 above the Prius model, giving the Prius the edge for solo drivers that don’t need extra space for the family.

Toyota’s always thinking big. They hope to sell 1 million hybrids annually by 2012. Help them out if you’re in the market for a new car and test-drive a Toyota hybrid. Visit your local new and used Toyota Libertyville dealer, Classic Toyota, where you’re sure to find a fuel-efficient vehicle that fits both your budget and lifestyle.
